DAVID JOHN 'DAVE' LANDRY
Funeral service for the late David John ‘Dave’ Landry, 69, Lower South River, Antigonish County, was held November 20 in St Andrew’s Church, St Andrews, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Father Dan MacDonald and Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Landry died November 16, 2019, in the Halifax Infirmary.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Megan Myette, Jeremy Gillis and Melanie Myette. Natasha Hodgson, Matthew Lewis, Brennan Landry and Brad Gillis presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Marlene MacKenzie. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace.
Urn bearer was Gordie MacMillan.
Honorary pallbearers were nieces and nephews Brad Gillis, Jeremy Gillis, Serena Landry, Jarrett Landry, Jordan Landry, Brennan Landry, Nathan Benoit, Randy Benoit, Natasha Hodgson, Megan Myette, Melanie Myette and Matthew Lewis.
Danny Barry, Donald Chisholm, Kevin DeCoste, Dr. Michele Murphy, Anna van Zutphen, Chis Chisholm, Gilbert Parsons, Keegan Teasdale, Doug Steven, Gary Hall, Paul MacDonald, Mike MacPherson, Wayne Brown, Kenny MacNeil and Jerry Grant formed an honour guard.
Born May 17, 1950, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Charles and Catherine (MacDonnell) Landry. He was well known in his work as an attendant at MacMillan's Petro-can in Lower South River. An avid sports enthusiast, he was scorekeeper for the St. Joseph’s Chiefs and Arisaig Blues of the AGR, top ticket seller for the Jr A Bulldogs hockey team and a proud fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed card playing and TV bingo. He cherished the visits from his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by six siblings; Marie (Gerard) Gillis, Glen Road; Donald (Janice), George (Joanne), both of Lower South River; Natalie (Kenny) Chisholm, North Grant; John (Janie), Afton; Margie (Brent) Lewis, Halifax; 12 nieces and nephews, Brad, Jeremy, Serena, Jarrett, Jordan, Brennan, Nathan, Randy, Natasha, Megan, Melanie, Matthew; 17 great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Charles, in infancy.
