David Joseph Gillis
Funeral service for the late David Joseph Gillis, 66, Antigonish, formerly of St. Andrews, was held May 15 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating.
Mr. Gillis died May 8, 2019.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Anne Gillis, Ian Gillis and Marci Gillis. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel.
Urn bearer was Charlie David Gillis.
Honorary pallbearers were Tom Gillis, Ian Gillis, Frank Gillis, Edward Gillis, Robbie McInnis and Pete Gillis.
Born October 8, 1952, in Sydney, he was the oldest son of the late John Anthony and Mary Louise (MacNeil) Gillis. A draftsman by trade, he spent most of his working life as an estimator in the steel fabrication (and oil) industry. He was skillful and proficient in many ways and always enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge. He had a deep environmental consciousness, loved gardening, and always had a repair project needing his expertise.
He is survived by son, Stephen; daughter, Heather; daughter and best friend, Janet (Jack Young); four grandchildren, Charlie David Gillis, Hazel Gillis, Myree Bennett-Gillis, Max Bennett-Gillis; stepmother, Joan; eight siblings, Frank (Mary), Ian (Trudy), Jocelyn, Tom (Vicki), Peter, Mary Lou, Edward (Helen), Anne; a large extended family.
He was predeceased by twin siblings, in infancy.
Memorial donations may be made to Talbot House or Marguerite Centre.
