David Olding Hebb

A celebration of life for the late David Olding Hebb, Antigonish, was held October 4 in St. James United Church Hall with Reverend Peter Smith officiating. Mr. Hebb died September 30 in St. Martha’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Active pallbearers at the service were Ron MacNeil, Ralph MacNeil, Joe MacNeil, Vince MacDonald, J.J. MacDonald and Willie Vander Linden. Honorary pallbearers were Velma MacNeil, Ann MacFarlane, Cher Harding MacInnis, Tanya Vickers, Cordis MacDonald, Holli O’Neil, Megan Pushie, Sarah Vander Linden, Shannon Harding, Ashley Doucet, Melanie Keller, Shara MacFarlane, Rachel Pushie and Erin Burgess. Born in Halifax, and raised in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Dr. Peter O. and Ann (Milne) Hebb. After finishing high school, he joined the RCAF and later studied engineering at St.F.X. and NS Tech University graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He took early retirement after a 39 year career that began at NS Light and Power and continued with NS Power Corporation. Relocating to Antigonish for his retirement, he and his wife, Velma, enjoyed traveling, supporting many community organizations and spending time with their family over the past 21 years. An avid curler, he joined the Highlander Curling Club in St. Andrews after moving to Antigonish and had been a member of the Dartmouth Curling Club previously. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Velma (MacNeil); four children, Sandi, Peter (Diana), Karen, Courtney; grandson, Michael (Sara); great-grandson, Tucker; brother, Michael.
