Donald Ross Macdonald

Funeral service for the late Donald Ross MacDonald, 71, Doctor’s Brook, was held January 13 in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Arisaig, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating, assisted by Deacon Sander Burke.

Mr. MacDonald died January 7, 2020, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Blaise Ross, Claire MacDonald and Linda Ross. Sister Sandra Lucchesi and Susan Wood presented the offertory gifts. Altar server was Colin Smith. Music was provided by Tom MacDonald and Karen Foley.

Pallbearers were Blaise Ross, Patrick Wheeler, Donnie Ross, Sean Ross, Angus Dan MacDonald and Paul Macquarrie.

Born July 28, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was a son of Lester J. and Mary D. (Morganelli) MacDonald. He was a graduate of Boston Latin High School and Northeastern University in Boston, 1970. He began his career as an accountant in Danville, Illinois for Hyster Corporation and then in Toronto, Canada for Emerson Corporation.  He moved and settled in Antigonish, where he started his own business. In 1993, he was elected to Softball Canada Board of Directors until 2011, being re-elected several times, in which he supervised seventeen consecutive championships from 1994 to 2010. He was a past president of Softball NS and was inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame in 2014.

He is survived by two sisters, Sandra (Peter) Lucchesi, Susan (Robert) Wood; two nieces, Danielle (Eugene) Buczynski, Liana (Michael Jr.) Labriola; nephew, Christopher Lucchesi; two great-nieces, Morgan and Julia Buczynski.

Memorial donations may be made to the Peggy Scot Foundation of Arisaig.
