Funeral service for the late Donald W. Chisholm, 82, Heatherton, Antigonish County, was held November 2 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Father Charles Cameron and Deacon Art Riley.
Funeral service for the late Donald W. Chisholm, 82, Heatherton, Antigonish County, was held November 2 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Father Charles Cameron and Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Chisholm died October 22, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Altar servers at the funeral Mass were Frank Machnik and Ambrose Rogers. Daughters Jolene Chisholm and Barbara Chisholm placed the pall. Readers were nieces Phyllis Mansell, Suzanne MacDonald and honorary grandchild Marcelle MacKenzie. Sisters Libby MacDonald and Catherine Ranger presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was sister-in-law Joan Chisholm. Music was provided by Immaculate Conception Church Choir. Pallbearers were nephews Kenneth Ranger, Brian Chisholm, Paul K. Chisholm, Stewart MacDonald, Jim Chisholm and Derek Chisholm. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Grace (Stewart) Chisholm. A carpenter by trade, he worked for Floyd Construction and Nova Construction for most of his career. He also worked in Northern Ontario for CN Rail as a linesman in his early years. He loved to keep busy and enjoyed many activities such as bowling, spending time working in his gardens, watching sports, especially hockey, and had a keen interest in history and world events. He was an avid reader, especially books on the railroad, Second World War and historical biographies. In his retirement, he enjoyed working with wood and continued to build many little projects. He loved spending time with family and friends, sharing lots of stories. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, where he was a member of the buildings and properties committee. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (Chisholm); two daughters, Jolene, Heatherton; Barbara, Ottawa; son, Mark (Rebecca), Melbourne, Australia; two grandchildren, Alex, Andi; brother, Albert (Joan), Heatherton; two sisters, Libby MacDonald, Heatherton; Catherine Ranger, London, Ontario; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Chisholm, Rose Connolly; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Charlie, Ronnie, Jim, Stewart; sister, Carmel; two brothers-in-law, Chisholm MacDonald, Glen Ranger; step-mother, Catherine Chisholm.
