Dorothy Rose Shears

Funeral service for the late Dorothy Rose Shears, 93, Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, formerly of Hureauville and Halifax, with ties to Newfoundland, was held March 15 in St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Reverend Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial was in Grantville Cemetery. Mrs. Shears died March 10, 2019, in the nursing home. She was a daughter of the late Tobias and Sarah Purchase. She was active in St. Mark’s United Church congregation. She enjoyed long walks, participating in the SAERC Pool Swim Exercise Class program and was also an avid bowler. She is survived by her son, Paul Shears, Hureauville; granddaughter, Sheri Shears, Fort McMurray, Alberta; sister, Gladys Jeffery, Toronto, Ontario; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain Douglas Shears. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s United Church General Fund or to Grantville Cemetery Fund.
