Funeral service for the late Douglas Gerard MacPherson,  78, Antigonish, was held July 24 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Gary MacPherson officiating, assisted by Father Donald MacGillivray (homily). Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Funeral service for the late Douglas Gerard MacPherson, 78, Antigonish, was held July 24 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Gary MacPherson officiating, assisted by Father Donald MacGillivray (homily). Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. MacPherson died July 21, 2018, at home. Readers at the funeral Mass were Sister Jovita MacPherson, Gladys MacGillivary and Elizabeth Venedam. Music was provided by Emery Van de Wiel. Active pallbearers were Brenda MacPherson, Karen MacPherson, Lori Connors, Donna Landry, Ashlee Morris and Sarah Morris. Honorary pallbearers were Barry Morris, Rick Delaney, Mike Connors, Jean Claude Landry and Emily Delaney. Born February 18, 1940, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Alex ‘Sam’ and Mary (Layes) MacPherson. He was a member of Local 244 Plumber/Pipefitters union. He often worked on construction sites away from home and encouraged his daughters to get an education and a good job even though it took them away from Nova Scotia. After retirement, he enjoyed going to sporting events at St.F.X.U., fishing at the wharf, working on his model boats or other wood working projects, going for drives in the evenings with his wife and spending time with his friends over coffee at McDonald’s. He did a bit of traveling visiting his daughters in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. He is survived by his wife, Berndette; five daughters, Brenda (Brian Axford), Comox, British Columbia; Karen (Barry Morris), Calgary, Alberta; Emily (Rick Delaney), Brooklin, Ontario; Lori (Mike Connors), Mississauga, Ont.; Donna (Jean-Claude Landry), Orleans, Ont.; six grandchildren, Ashlee, Sarah-Ann, Audrey, Samantha, Nicole, Joshua; two sisters, Mary (Dave Labun), Millinocket Maine; Sr. Jovita CSM, Antigonish; four brothers, Elvie (companion Eileen), Harvey (Anne), Jackie (Patricia), Fr. Gary, all of Antigonish; sister-in-law, Jean, Antigonish. He was predeceased by five brothers, Gordon, Joey, Sammy, RJ, Alex; twin sisters; two sisters-in-law, Margie, Edna.
