DUNCAN CUMMINGS

Duncan Cummings

Funeral service for the late Duncan Cummings, Creignish, was held September 17 in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Creignish, with Father Eugene Morris officiating.

Mr. Cummings died September 14, 2019. 

Born in 1938, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (MacEachen) Cummings of Mabou Harbour. After attending school, he made his way to Elliot Lake, then Connecticut, where he was joined by his bride.  After a short time there, they moved to Boston where they had their first two children, then moved back to Nova Scotia, where they had three more children.  Upon settling in Creignish, he established Cummings Construction Limited, later opening two Subway franchises.  While being a man of few words, he led by example and worked hard to instill strong values and honourable character in his children.

 He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Gillis); five children, Cindy Negus (Michael), Ottawa; David (Melissa), Halifax; Lisa Rodney (Vance), Yarmouth; Darren (Tracey), Port Hawkesbury; Dwayne (Jennifer), Oshawa; 15 grandchildren, Caitlin, Kylie, Ottawa; Kennedy, Logan, Halifax; Lucas, Grace, Yarmouth; Georgia, Lainey, Myca, Callie, Port Hawkesbury; Jake, Brett, Thomas John (T.J.), Cooper, Max, Oshawa; sister, Juanita (Brampton); four brothers, Dan Archie (Jane), Edmund (Celia), Jimmy (Barbara), all of Mabou; Jerome, Inverness; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was predeceased by granddaughter, Molly Sarah; two brothers, John Robert, Roddie; two sisters, Martha, Anna.
