A Presbyterian funeral service for the late Ernest James Dewar, 80, Marshy Hope, was held October 1 in St. Joseph’s Church, St Joseph’s, Antigonish County, with Greg Dickson officiating, assisted by Father Lazarus Guria. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Dewar died September 25, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Music at the funeral service was provided by Ty Wallace, Joan Dewar, Shelly Campbell and Marion Dewar. Pallbearers were Allan Dewar, Donald Dewar, Brian MacDonald, Eric Dewar, John Dewar and Gordon MacGregor. Born May 29, 1938, he was a son of the late Chester and Mary (Foote) Dewar of Marshy Hope. He drove a school bus in Pictou County for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane (Fraser); two daughters, Susan McCarthy (Leonard March), Evanston; Patricia Dewar, Sackville, New Brunswick; two sisters, Kaye MacDonald, James River; Margaret (Jim) Bowie, Spryfield; brother, Bill (Sheila) Dewar, Herring Cove; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Dewar, Marshy Hope; Sylvia Dewar, Truro; Marion Dewar; Ohio; many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by son-in-law, Tim McCarthy, parents-in-law, William and Jean Fraser, seven siblings, Gladys, Edgar (Marjorie), Helen (Alex), Robert, George, Christene (Hugh), and Roy; brother-in-law, Huntley MacDonald.
