Essie Mae Chinn

Essie Mae Chinn
Funeral service for the late Essie Mae Chinn, 77, Addington Forks, was held July 27 in St. James United Church, Antigonish, with Reverend Peter Smith officiating. Burial was in St. James/St. Paul Cemetery. Mrs. Chinn died July 21, 2018, in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Remembrance of Essie was given by daughter Valerie. Music was provided by Hee-Jung Choi. Born at her home in West River/Addington Forks, she was the eldest of four daughters of the late Charles and Bella (Bayne) Pushie. She was educated at St. Andrew’s Rural High School and graduated as a CNA from Camphill Hospital School of Nursing, Halifax. She worked at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg and later at the N. S. Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Halifax. On June 13, 1964, she married Kenneth John Chinn. Her faith in God, her belief in heavenly and earth angels, and the power of prayer definitely helped pull her through any situation that circumstances of life threw her way. She was an avid lover of nature. Her interests included art, oil, water color and acrylic painting, sewing, swimming, flower gardening and fishing. She especially loved dogs. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and, in later years, modern square dancing with The Maple Leaf Whirl-Aways Square Dance Club. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, but she especially cherished time spend with family and loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth John Chinn; two daughters, Valerie (Joseph Delorey), Ontario; Jacqueline Holly (Gordon Bell), Halifax; grandson, Kenneth Delorey; godchild, Bryan Leslie Kennedy, Antigonish; brother, Gordon (Teresa) Pushie, Antigonish; three sisters, Robina Casson, Altberta; Isabel Drake, Sandra Kennedy, both of Antigonish; sister-in-law, Joyce Warnell, British Columbia; brother-in-law; Wilfred Henley, Halifax. She was predeceased by two brothers, William John (Esther Finnie), Charles Melville Pushie; three brothers-in-law, Winston and Reggie Chinn, Gerald Kennedy; sister-in-law, June Henley. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care Unit). Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
