FLORENCE ANITA JANE MACLEAN

Florence Anita Jane Maclean

Funeral service for the late Florence Anita Jane MacLean, 76, Beaver Meadow, was held July 29 in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Josephs, Antigonish County, with Father Lazarus Guria, Father Daniel MacDonald and Father Elliott O’Neill officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. MacLean died July 23, 2019, in St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Jean Collins and Donna Kennedy. Carl MacDonald and Tony Van den Hoogen presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Ty Wallace and piper Allan Boutilier.

Pallbearers were Brian MacLean, Kevin MacLean, Christopher MacLean, Shawn MacLean, Logan MacLean and Michael Murphy.

Members of St. Martha’s Class of 1964 nurses and St. Joseph’s CWL formed an honour guard.

Born November 24, 1942, in Ohio, Antigonish County, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Catherine Murphy. She was a graduate of St. Martha’s School of Nursing in 1964. She married John J. MacLean on September 5, 1965, in St. Joseph’s Church. She began her career as a nurse in Chicago, but soon moved to Brockville, Ontario. After a short time in Brockville, they moved back to Antigonish where she served many years at St. Martha’s Hospital. Upon leaving St. Martha’s, she began a new career with the Victorian Order of Nurses until retiring. She volunteered for 53 years with the Catholic Women’s League, as a member and also held several executive positions.

She is survived by her husband, John J. MacLean, Beaver Meadow; five children, Brian MacLean, Kevin MacLean (Margot Sadler), Christopher MacLean (Cindy), Shawn MacLean (Susan Cameron), Salva MacLean; four grandchildren, Brittany MacIntosh (Barrett), Logan MacLean, Michael MacLean, Ian MacLean; great-granddaughter, Lumen MacIntosh; three siblings, Anne, DJ, Salva.

She was predeceased by four siblings, Theresa, Hugh Bernard, John-Arther, Fraser.

In her memory she would like a simple act of kindness performed or memorial donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.
