FLORENCE 'FODY' MCCARRON

Florence 'Fody' Mccarron

Funeral service for the late Florence ‘Fody’ McCarron, 94, was held December 27 in St. James United Church, Antigonish, with Reverend Peter Smith officiating.

Mrs. McCarron died December 20, 2019.

Readers at the funeral service were Emilie Chiasson, Travis McCarron and Stephen Chiasson. Music was provided by St. James Choir, Sheamais MacLeod, John Pellerin and Sheila Davison.

Pallbearers were grandchildren Stephen Chiasson, David Chiasson, Emilie Chiasson, Travis McCarron, Patrick McCarron, Megan McCarron; absent Chris Chiasson and Craig McCarron.

Honorary pallbearers were nephews Ian McCarron, Ronnie MacGillivray, Daniel MacGillivray, John Hugh McCarron, Barrie Burrows and Stephen Jackson.

Born at home in North River, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Dan K and Nellie (MacMillian) MacLeod. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in North River, continued her education at Baddeck Academy and moved to Glace Bay for work. While visiting home during the summer of 1947, she met John W McCarron, whom she married in 1951. Together, in Antigonish, they built a family and a successful forestry company, John W McCarron Trucking Ltd. She enjoyed making jams, jellies, cookies, pies, fudge and butter tarts. She never missed a family event, no matter the location and she loved to travel. A devoted PC card holder, she also loved a political debate and to wag a finger at the Liberals.

She is survived by daughter, Janice (Leonel) Chiasson; son, Jim (Debbie); eight grandchildren, Chris, Stephen, David, Emilie, Travis, Patrick, Megan, Craig; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pat and Joyce MacLeod; four brothers-in-law, Eddie, Hughie (Margaret), Blaise (Martine), and Jerome (Judy) McCarron; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John W; two brothers, Neil and Bert MacLeod; chosen brother, Richard McGregor; two sisters, Mary (Harry) Burrows, Dorothy (Leonard) Jackson; two brothers-in-law, Leo (Mary) and Leonard (Mary) McCarron; six sisters-in-law, Mary, Sadie, Phyllis, Marie, Rita and Evelyn McCarron.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, where she volunteered for more than 30 years, or VON Antigonish.
