G. JOSEPH MACNEIL
Funeral service for the late George Joseph ‘Joe’ MacNeil, 82, Barra Head, was held June 17 in St. Peter’s Parish Church, St. Peter’s.
Mr. MacNeil died June 8, 2019, in the Halifax Infirmary.
Born December 16, 1936, in Barra Head, he was a son of the late Ernest and Mary (Boudreau) MacNeil. He spent the majority of his life working as a carpenter and part-time with the Nova Scotia Animal Breeders. He was deeply devoted to family, church, community service and hobbies. He was a long-time member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association, Richmond Fiddlers and Knights of Columbus organizations. He played fiddle and sang in the church choir, and had a deep appreciation of music. He was also a long serving board member for Credit Unions, St. Ann’s Gaelic College, and Co-operatives. He spent countless hours in his workshop making crafts and furniture for friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret (MacLean) MacNeil; son, Paul (Chrissie); four daughters, Marie (Dave Davis), Gail, Joanne (Don Robinson), Lynn (Stew Adams); six grandchildren, Emma, Tyler, Cameron, Daniel, Justin, Erin; two great-grandchildren, Lila, Car; five siblings, Sister Veronica, John (Audrey), Helen MacDonald, Rose (Bruno DiPersio), Blaise (Clare); sister-in-law Judy.
He was predeceased by sister, Mary (Alex) Mombourquette; brother, Leo; brother-in-law, John MacDonald.
