George Joseph Maclellan
Funeral service for the late George Joseph MacLellan, 85, Orchard Terrace, Antigonish, formerly of Big Marsh, Antigonish County, was held February 28 in St. Mary’s Church, Maryvale, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Mr. MacLellan died February 23, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Kathleen Fraser and Madeline Fraser. Jesse Fraser and Cohen Fraser presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Mary MacLellan. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace. Pallbearers were Sandy Fraser, Donnie Fraser, Brennin Fraser and Adam MacGillivray. Born March 24, 1933, in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Josephine (Whalen) MacLellan. After working in Boston for many years, he returned to Big Marsh in the early 1980s and drove trucks for Zinck’s Transfer, John W. McCarron Ltd. and Buddy MacDougall. He enjoyed attending card plays and driving around the county. He is survived by sister, Josie Fraser, Big Marsh; brother, Lawrence (Abigail), Pennsylvania; two nephews, Sandy and Donnie Fraser; niece, Leanne Valhouli; eight nieces and nephews in the US, Joey, Malcolm, Mary, Ann, Susan, Sarah, Elizabeth, Karey; many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by brother, Malcolm; brother-in-law, Collie Fraser. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
