George Victor Jean

Funeral service for the late George Victor Jean, 80, Addington Forks, Antigonish County, was held December 13 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father John Barry officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Jean died December 9, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Laurinda Matheson, Bernard Arsenault and Dan Lawson. Owen and Reanne Jean, Amanda MacDougall and Rosalie MacGillivray presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Angela Fougere. Music was provided by Emery Van de Wiel and St. Ninian Funeral Choir.

Pallbearers were Francis Arsenault, Maria Thomson, Dave MacDougall, Donnie Statchook, Dan Lawson and Michael Lawson.

Born December 26, 1938, in Rockdale, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Anthony and Victoria (Pottie) Jean. He began his career as an auto body mechanic with Antigonish Motors and later Ron MacGillivray Chev Olds where, in total, he worked for nearly 50 years and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was in the garden, woodpile, taking care of his property or working in his shop. He also enjoyed music, sports, walking and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vencentia ‘Vency’ (MacGillivray); son, Lance (Julie) Jean; two daughters, Shelly (Dan) Lawson, Marilyn (Terry) Long;  five grandchildren, Owen, Reanne, Michael, Madeline, Luke; two sisters, Eileen Jeffrey, Leona Hachey; brother, Murdock (Nancy); four sisters-in-law, Elizabeth, Mary Margaret (Phil), Florence, Marie; brother-in-law, Buddy (Laura).

He was predeceased by two sisters, Leotine, Elizabeth; five brothers, Albert, Leonard, Armond, Alexander, Bernard; four sisters-in-law, Charlotte, Catherine, Sr. Christine, Rosemary.

Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.
