GERTRUDE LILLIAN COFFIN

Gertrude Lillian Coffin

A celebration of life for the late Gertrude Lillian 'Gertie' Coffin, 85, was held September 14 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Burial will be at a later date in Bay Fortune United Church Cemetery, Bay Fortune, Prince Edward Island.

Mrs. Coffin died September 8, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Port Hawkesbury, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Edna (Warner) Ryan. She enjoyed fishing and she and her husband spent lots of time in their camper at their favourite fishing spots. She became interested in the fiddle, giving fiddle lessons and starting the Strait Area Scottish Strings Society. She loved to travel with her daughters and they had many trips together from the British Isles to Vegas, plus trips to Disney with her children and later with her grandchildren. In later years, she began making quilts and made many for family and friends. Her summers were spent in PEI- her husband’s home - at the old school near Fortune Bridge. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Coffin (Guy Beaulieu), Timberlea; Joanne Coffin (Jim Fry), Port Hawkesbury; four grandchildren, Nicole, Kerry, Aidan, Josh; cherished friend, Marie and her husband, Howard MacKinnon.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alva; four sisters, Irene Murray, Stella MacMaster, Kaye Murphy, Betty Murphy; four brothers, Ernest, Henry, Gardiner, Freddie.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
