Gordon 'Gary' Humphreys

Gordon 'Gary' Humphreys
‘Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.’ As a Buddhist, those words always had a special resonance for him, particularly so in his later years. Mr. Humphreys passed away peacefully on May 3, 2018, at the age of 67, just hours after a beautiful trip to Peggy’s Cove. Born in Trenton, he was the son of Gordon and Helen (Bezanson). A lover of life and all its simple joys, playing sports was one of the things he loved best. He was a tough competitor on the basketball court (no matter how much younger the opponent) and he had fond memories of his years spent as assistant coach of the St. F. X. women’s basketball team. He also loved baseball, a good game of chess, good conversation, good music and a good laugh. Big-hearted and kind to everyone he met, he made genuine connections everywhere his life took him and was dearly loved by many. Knowing what was to come, he spent his last weeks at home in quiet contemplation, appreciating the bliss he found in life’s daily moments. He was surrounded by the loving care of close friends and family, including Sunny Gupta, who was like a son to him. He is survived by wife, Dayle (Whidden); son, Ben; daughter, Lindsay; brother, Wally and sister-in-law Nelda (Balfour); brother, Jimmy and sister-in-law Mary Anne (Earle). Cremation has taken place, and family and friends will be invited to gather for a celebration of Gary’s life. Stories, memories and photos of him would be greatly appreciated by the family and can be sent to [email protected]. In memory, donations can be made to Hope Cottage’s meals for the homeless program or to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.
