Funeral service for the late Howard James Porter, 86, Country Harbour, Guysborough County, was held July 25 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church with Reverend Sue Channen officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Mr. Porter died July 20, 2018, in High-Crest Sherbrooke Home for Special Care. Born in Country Harbour, he was a son of the late Stanley and Margaret (Hudson) Porter. Over the years, he sailed the Great Lakes, worked in the woods, and worked for the Department of Transportation for 17 years. He enjoyed going to the camp with family and friends, cribbage, hunting, trapping and fishing. In 1977, he trapped the first coyote caught in Nova Scotia, which is displayed in the Museum of Natural History in Halifax. He is survived by his wife, Leonetta (Langille); two sons, Ricky (Darla), Port Bickerton; Donnie (Phoebe), West Bay; four daughters, Debra (Wendall), Country Harbour; Coreen (Brian), Port Bickerton; Wanda (Bob), Guysborough; Sherlyn (Bev), Cumberland, Ontario; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Charlie, Country Harbour; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by son, Kenny; daughter, Brenda Manthorne; brother, Roy; two sisters, Vera Smith, Mona Feltmate; two sisters-in-law, Martha Porter, Marie Porter; Charlie’s friend, Joan; two brothers-in-law, Brucie Smith, Eddie Feltmate.
