James Roderick ‘Parr’ Macdougall
Funeral service for the late James Roderick ‘Parr’ MacDougall, 93, Inverness, was held April 25 in Stella Maris Church, Inverness, with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Mr. MacDougall died April 16, 2019, at home. Born September 27, 1925, in Foot Cape, and raised in the Red Rows, he was a son of the late John D. and Margaret (MacDonald) MacDougall. At age 18, he joined the Navy and served on the HMCS Burlington, where he saw action in the Atlantic while protecting the convoys. After the war, he worked in the hard rock mines of Northwestern Canada before returning home to the mines of Inverness and to marry. In 1967, he and his wife opened the Ceilidh Restaurant and later Central Clothing, all while he worked as a foreman for the Department of Highways. In the late 1960s, they moved to their home at Broad Cove Banks where he was often seen riding his horses. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and the last veteran of the Second World War from Inverness. He was a lifelong member and strong supporter of Captain Angus L. MacDonald Royal Canadian Legion Branch 132 in Inverness. He was instrumental in establishing the Ceilidh Trail CB Club Park in Inverness, was a staunch Tory and a proud Cape Bretoner. He is survived by son, Angus, Orillia, Ontario; daughter, Rose Annette (Peter Hart), Inverness; three grandchildren, Gaelen, Liam, Breton Parr; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Kaye (Muise); sisters, Catherine (Kaye), Margaret, Annie Mae, Isabel, Alena, Stella; brothers, Dougall, ‘Pill’, Alex L., Ronald, ‘Ran’, George, ‘Nick’, Bernie.
