Janet Bernice Canning
Funeral service for the late Janet Bernice Canning, 68, Antigonish, was held August 7 in C. L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial was in St. Ninian’s Cemetery.
Mrs Canning died July 31, 2018, in the Halifax Infirmary.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Pamela Boisvert (remembrance), Joshua Boisvert, Vivian Carter and Mairin Canning.
Music was provided by Margaret MacGregor MacDonald and grandchildren Aidan and Elise Canning.
Pallbearers were Joshua Boisvert, Robert MacDonald, Elijah Boisvert, Ralph Fraser, Jacques Boisvert and Willie MacDonald.
Born August 19, 1949, in Montague, Prince Edward Island, she was the daughter of Edith (Baker) MacDonald, Belfast, P.E.I.; and the late Wallace MacDonald. She worked as a waitress while helping her husband through dental school, then joined him in his dental practice. She was employed for many years in Halifax as a personal care assistant, where she bestowed upon her clients the same nurturing care that she lavished on her family. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Caribou. Her grandchildren were an immense source of pride and she proudly cheered them on through their various sports, activities, and milestones.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband Carl; daughter, Pamela (Jacques) Boisvert, Ottawa; son, Robert (Kelly) Canning, Antigonish; six grandchildren, Joshua (Kayla) Boisvert, Elijah Boisvert, Aidan Canning, Elise Canning, Mairin Canning, Bryn Canning; sister, Marie (Ralph) Fraser, Calgary; brother, Robert (Barb) MacDonald, Charlottetown.
