Funeral service for the late Jessie MacIntosh Kaiser, 89, was held March 22 in Port Bickerton Community Center with Reverend Ron Ford and Reverend Norman Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Kaiser died March 15, 2019, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born October 2, 1929, on the family farm in the Garden of Eden, Pictou County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Daniel Alexander and Emily Matilda (Clyburne) Wood. Following graduation from school and too young to pursue her dream of nursing, she attended Normal College in Truro and, upon graduation, taught school in Port Bickerton. On reaching admissions age, she attended the Aberdeen School of Nursing, graduating in the top percentile of her class. She was a passionate R.N. who gave service to her profession at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Sherbrooke; The V.G. Hospital, Halifax; countless clinics, community nursing and concluding her nursing career with The Department of Veterans Affairs. Her many achievements were recognized with numerous accolades and volunteer awards throughout the years. She was an active attendee of the Port Bickerton Baptist Church; a lifelong volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation; an honorary member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia; and member of the St. Mary’s Flower Club, having won many awards for her beautiful flowers and arrangements. Always willing to give of her time, she held dear the numerous friendships she developed from the organizations and community nursing in which she was involved. She is survived by six children, Dale (Barb), Janice (Jerry) Harpell, Brian (Coreen), DeVerne (Barb), Marjorie-Jane (Donnie) Nickerson, Kurt (Cindy); 10 grandchildren, Derek Smith, Jonathan and Joshua Kaiser, Ryan Harpell, Deanne Savoie, Holly and Gina Kaiser, Farrah-Anne Garbutt, Erik and Colin Kaiser; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Polley, Edna Hambleton; sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Wood; numerous nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain Eric Kaiser; son, Michael Bradford, in infancy; brother, Frederick Wood.
