John Robert ‘Bob’ Caughey
Funeral service for the late John Robert ‘Bob’ Caughey, 70, Lakevale, was held December 20 in St. Columba Church, Lakevale, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Mr. Caughey died at December 15, 2018 home. Readers at the funeral Mass were Yvette MacDonald and Linda MacGillivray. Eucharistic minister was Trish Mac Donald. Music was provided by John Pellerin. Pallbearers were processional lead Corporal Shannon Fear, members of RCMP honour guard, son Daniel Caughey, stepson David Mac Gillivray, retired RCMP colleagues Cpl. Robert Walton and Constable Tim Nicholson, friends Lloyd Jewkes and Chet Chisholm. Born in Pembroke, Ontario, he was the eldest child of the late Cecelia and John Christopher Caughey. A rebel from an early age, he quit school at recess the first day of grade 1, went home and demanded to go to the French School. His bilingual education prepared him for a combined 45 year career as an MP in the Canadian Forces and later as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Retiring five years ago, he explored the world by train, plane and boat - travelling to Germany, Austria, Scotland, England, Barbados, The Rhine, The Danube, the Caribbean, Alaska and many places in-between, his most recent travels to the Norwegian Fjords and his ancestral home of Ireland. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent timein many hockey arenas, baseball fields and 4H barns with his children. He became their lifelong coach - coaching his son through hockey and ball and daughter with her goats, lambs and puppy classes He is survived by his wife, Terry Penny; her children Lindsey (Kris Gardham) Mac Gillivray, Toronto; David (Kristina) MacGillivray, Lakevale; his daughter, Victoria (Darcy) Blanchard, Newfoundland; their son Tommy and his two children; his son, Daniel (Megan Ryan) Caughey, Stittsville, ON; his daughter, Lori (Rev Andrew) MacDonald, Whycocomagh, and their beautiful daughters, Natalie and Bridget; sister, Jane (Harrison) Farrell; brother, David (Karen) Caughey, both of Pembroke, ON; sister-in-law, Diane Caughey, Pembroke; nieces and nephews, Kevin, Ian, Christopher and Mandy. He is also survived by his adopted Penny family; father-in-law Gordon Penny, Antigonish; three sisters-in law, Patricia, Susan, Anne Marie Penny; two brothers-in-law, Michael and Mark Penny.
