JOSEPH H. DELOREY

Funeral service for the late Joseph Howard Delorey 60, Monastery, Antigonish County, was held July 2 in St. Peters Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Father Anthony O’Connor. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Delorey died June 26, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were friend Carmel MacPherson, daughter-in-law Sarah Delorey and sister-in-law Maxine Connolly. Altar servers were Donnie Pitts and Sandy MacEachern. Nieces Brittany Rioux, Katelyn Davis, Nicole Davis and Hilary Gabriel presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Danny and Mary Theresa Rodgers and Neil and Mia Decoff. Active pallbearers were Paul Spin, Randy Pettipas, Terry Bray, Kenny MacDonald, Neil Mattie, Jimmy Sinclair, Mike O’Leary and John Delorey. Honorary pallbearers were Strait Regional School Board bus drivers. Born October 27, 1958, he was a bus driver for the Strait Regional School Board for 38 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, the Tracadie Volunteer Fire Department, and Linwood Community Centre. He gave many hours of his time to the Beavers & Cubs, and the Tracadie Minor Softball League. He received an award for volunteer of the year, Antigonish County. He spent his time and talent fixing four wheelers. He enjoyed working on his land, grooming and planting flowers on their property, spending time with his wife going to bingo, trips down south, walks on the beach, spending time with family and friends, and being host for Connolly Family Reunions. He was a passionate crib player. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy; two sons, Edward, Calgary; Justin (Sarah) Brierly Brook; grandson, Jack; two sisters, Beatrice (Allan) Green, Liz (Ambrose) Tate, Linwood; two special nieces, Donna Morrison, Karen Delorey, Linwood; mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Kenneth Connolly, Guysborough Intervale; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose Connolly, Antigonish; Theresa Connolly, Saint John, New Brunswick; Phillip (Mary) Connolly, Martin Connolly, Maxine Connolly, all of Guysborough Intervale; Joanne (John) Davis, CT; Laura (Charlie) Gabriel, Lower Sackville, Alice (Art) Embree, Cole Harbour; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Doris Delorey; two brothers, Martin, Robert; two brothers-in-law, Jerome, Peter. Memorial donations may be made to The Lodge That Gives, Halifax.
