Funeral service for the late Joseph Kennedy Chisholm, 90, Greenwold Manor, formerly of Harbour Center, Antigonish, was held May 21 in St. Ninian Cathedral, with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Chisholm died May 18, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Readers at the funeral Mass were Angie Murphy, Valerie Sullivan and Betty Rose Landry. Teryl Phillips, William Chisholm and Kendall Chisholm presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Emery Van de Wiel. Pallbearers were Peter Murphy, Jimmy Connors, Danny Connors, John Corsten, Tony Costen and Josie Phillips. Born November 30, 1928, in Hallowell Grant (Fairmont), he was a son of William John and Annie Jane (Kennedy) Chisholm. In the spring of 1929, the Chisholm Clan moved to Harbour Center where they homesteaded for three generations. In 1958, he joined his brothers in Ontario, working in the aluminum siding business. He returned to Antigonish shortly after. In October 1962, he married Josephine Ann Fanning, Sydney. He drove a gravel truck for the department of highways until 1970, at which time he joined the Antigonish School Board as a janitor, and as driver of bus #28. He retired after 23 years of service. He and his wife opened their home to several foster children over the years. He was an avid woodsman, dedicated farmer and very serious card-player. After handing down the farm to his son Kennedy, he continued to help with the livestock, hay and farm upkeep well into his late 80s. He is survived by four children, Teresa Roy (Dan), Alberta; William (Laurie) Wallace, Ashdale; Lisa Chisholm Phillips, Antigonish; Kennedy (Liza) Chisholm, Okotoks; 10 grandchildren, Steven Wallace, Kyle Wallace, Bryden Wallace, Adam Roy, Lisa Chisholm, Lora Chisholm, Josie Phillips, Teryl Phillips, Kendall Chisholm, William Chisholm; two sisters, Kathleen (Joe) Hays, Winnipeg; Argyle, New Market; two foster brothers, Danny and Jimmy Connors. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine; 11 siblings, Josephine Sullivan, John, Mary Chisholm, Edward, Charles, Blaise, Hugh, Samuel, Lewis, Jean Carson, Raymond.
