Funeral service for the late Joseph Roy Richard, was held May 2 in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Arichat, with Father Michel Exalant officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery, Arichat, at a later date. Mr. Richard died April 29, 2019, at home. Born November 29, 1953, he was a son of the late Simon and Lorraine Richard. He worked in various workplaces, deckhand for Richmond Fisheries and pulp cutter with Nova Scotia Forest Industries. Many years in the teamsters union allowed him to work as a truck driver on the New Brunswick pipeline and, in recent years, he was a lobster fishing crew member on the (Della & Donna) with his friends Douglas and Louis Boudreau. He was a member of the Isle Madame RC Legion Branch 150, a long-time member of the Isle Madame Volunteer Fire Department and was on the Coast Guard Search and Rescue team. He enjoyed music and dancing. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Giselle; four children, Ryan (Jillian), Bailey, Angel (Jacob Gould), Jason LeBlanc; three grandchildren, Lacey, Lindsay, Reese; three brothers, John (Aurine), Glen (Donna), both of Arichat; Andre, Kentville. He was predeceased by grandson, Lexton LeBlanc. Memorial donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Wish Foundation or the Strait Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Society.
