June Faye MacLean
Funeral service for the late June Faye MacLean, 89, Newtown, Guysborough County, was held April 26 in Bethel Community Church, South Lochaber, with Reverend Freda Steeves officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Newtown Cemetery.
Mrs. MacLean died April 21, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Newtown, she was a daughter of the late Ross and Nona (Rhodenizer) Jewers. She started working at age 13. Her jobs were varied, including cooking in woods camps, nursing homes, taking in sewing and upholstering. She built her own house, doing the work herself.
She is survived by son, David (Carolyn) DuPont; four daughters, Ann (Rod) Chisholm, Betty Sharp, Judy (Jim) Reeves, Lynn Gardiner; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Dorothy Jewers; many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel MacLean; one daughter, in infancy; one son, in infancy; sister, Joyce (Edgar) Nickerson; two brothers, Carl and Earl (Marion) Jewers.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation, Newtown Cemetery or a charity of choice.
