Kathleen Christene ‘Kitty’ Macfarlane
Funeral service for the late Kathleen Christene ‘Kitty’ MacFarlane, 94, Williams Point, Antigonish County, was held January 23 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mrs. MacFarlane died January 19, 2019. Readers at the funeral Mass were Danielle MacFarlane, Paul MacFarlane, Nicole MacLean and Katie Novak. Carter Chisholm, Duncan MacFarlane and Jacob MacFarlane presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by vocalist Ty Wallace and flutist Emery Van de Wiel. Active pallbearers were Alec Novak, Jason Teasdale, Al MacFarlane, Matthew MacFarlane, Justin MacFarlane and Frank MacFarlane. Honorary pallbearers were Len McKeough, Terry MacGillivray, Carlin Connors and Donnie MacFarlane. Born July 24, 1924, in Bayfield, she was a daughter of the late Alice (Chisholm) and John Connors. After raising her family, she pursued bookkeeping training and worked at The Fabric Tree, Speedy Propane and MacDonald’s Drug Store. She was a founding volunteer at the Opportunity Shop and was actively involved with the Catholic Women’s League and Club 60 in Antigonish. She enjoyed travel in her later years and had many happy memories of annual trips with her sisters, along with travel within Canada, the USA, Ireland, Scotland and Italy. She especially enjoyed numerous Anna McGoldrick tours. Throughout life, she was a gifted seamstress as well as cook, baker, quilter, knitter and ceramic crafter. An avid card player, she enjoyed auction, 45s and bridge. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and the last member of the generation of the Connors and MacFarlane families. She is survived by four sons, Joe, John A. (Roma), Ronald (Claudia), Bill (Ann); five daughters, Janie (Doug Covey), Bernice, Lynn, Beverly (Elliott Anderson), Peggie (Joe MacLean); 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several godchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; daughter, Brenda; daughter-in-law, Dianne MacFarlane; three sons-in-law, Bill Teasdale, Don Bowering, Bob Wakefield; three sisters, Betty McKeough, Annie MacGillivray, Mary MacGillivray; six brothers Reg, Eugene and Dan Connors, three, in infancy.
