Funeral service for the late Kathleen ‘Kay’ Smith, 81, formerly of Williams Point, was held March 11 in Saint Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mrs. Smith died March 7, 2019, in Cove Guest Home, Sydney. Readers at the funeral Mass were Amanda McDougall, Jacqueline Ruigrok and Diane van de Sande. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel. Pallbearers were Ronnie MacEachern, Tony van de Sande, Charles Ruigrok, Chris McDougall, Mathew Mattie and Rick Haines. Born March 17, 1937, She was a daughter of the late Burton and Bretta Kaiser, Port Bickerton,Guysborough County, but called Williams Point, Antigonish, her home for many years. She married Jack ‘Jackie’ Smith and built a cozy home filled with children, animals, radio tunes and a few card games around the kitchen table. She had a very special love for all animals. She is survived by five children, Diane (Tony) van de Sande, Marilyn (Tony) McDougall, Jacqueline (Charles) Ruigrok, David, Paula (Gerry) Walker; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith (Clarence) Humber. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Jackie; two sons, John, George; grandson, Alexander; brother, Lewis; sister, Gloria.
