Lauchlin Gerard Macdougall

Funeral service for the late Lauchlin 'Lauchie' Gerard MacDougall, 77, formerly of West Bay Road and Inverness, was held August 30 in St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, West Bay Road, with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. MacDougall died August 26, 2019 in Halifax.

Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late JB and Martha (MacLellan) MacDougall. In his early years, he was known as a tough lefty on the mound playing baseball, making lifelong friends and generally being a character around town. He and his wife socialized and danced their way from Cape Breton to Florida to Portugal and locations in between. Almost his entire career was spent at ‘The Mill’ in Point Tupper, where he was a shift supervisor and regular card player. He also volunteered, including time with the West Bay Road Fire Department and the Canadian Diabetes Association, where he was the first president and a founder of the Port Hawkesbury Chapter. He enjoyed listening to the Ceilidh, reading a book or golfing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sherry (MacLean), Stillwater Lake; daughter, Rhonda (Brian Rourke); son, Shane (Joan); five grandchildren, Bannon, Davin, Ewan, Eilish, Cullen; sister, Isabel (Ken), Calgary; three brothers, Malcolm (Sheila), Dartmouth; Harold, Parksville, British Columbia; Joe (Sheila), Inverness; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by daughter, Debbie; brother and sister-in-law, John and Anne (Donovan) MacDougall; sister-in-law, Janet MacDougall; nephew, Andrew MacDougall; in-laws, Michael (Mickey) and Sarah (Sadie) (Morrison) MacLean.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Hospice Halifax.
