Leonard Henry Wallace

Funeral service for the late Leonard Henry Wallace, 78, Merland, Antigonish County, was held September 20 in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Merland.      

Mr. Wallace died September 16, 2019, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Sheila Walters, James Wallace and Larry Wallace. Mark Wallace and Kyle Landry presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace and Jamie Benoit.

Active pallbearers were James Wallace, Mark Wallace, Larry Wallace, Calvin Wallace, Gordon Walters and Wayne Landry.

 Honorary pallbearers were Chace Walters, Logan Walters, Patrick Cox, Kyle Landry, Ash Creelman, Liam Patterson, Earl Wallace, Billy Wallace, Carmen Wallace and Jeffrey Layes.

Born November 3, 1940, in Merland, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary (Delorey) Wallace. He was a man of integrity, kept his promises, and was there for anyone who needed his help or support. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing stories of the ‘little bunny rabbit who lived in the woods’ with his grandchildren. He was a very talented musician, enjoyed listening to country classics and continued to strum the guitar or play the piano when he had the opportunity. He was all about community and taking care of his fellow neighbour.

He is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Gordon) Walters, Tantallon; Lena (Wayne) Landry, Grimshaw, Alberta; four sons, James (Melodie Creelman), Larry (Joyce Henderson), both of Truro; Calvin (Tiffany) Wallace, Grand Prairie, Alberta; Mark (Natalie) Wallace, Lake Echo; seven grandsons, Kyle, Patrick, Chace, Logan, Ashley, Liam, Brodie; granddaughter, Reece; sister, Allie (Wallace) Ronaghan, Mississauga, Ontario; five  sisters-in-law, May Wallace, Joan Wallace, Rosena Wallace, Debbie Wallace, Darlene Chisholm, all of Antigonish County; two  brothers, Earl (late Ella Mae), Billy, Antigonish; many nieces, nephews and family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Dorothy (Layes) Wallace; seven brothers, John Francis, Anthony, Buddy, Damian (Dorothy), Eugene (Carolyn), Berkley, Ronnie; brother-in-law, Alfred Ronaghan. 

Memorial, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund, R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation, or Parkinson’s Society Maritime Region.
