Louisa Gerarda Maria ‘Lucy’ Wilkie
Funeral service for the late Louisa Gerarda Maria ‘Lucy’ Wilkie, 79, Tracadie, Antigonish County, was held April 3 in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, with Father John Barry officiating, assisted by Deacon Art Riley. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Wilkie died March 31, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Angie Connors and Alice Connors. Angelica Laybolt and Stacey Wilkie presented the offertory gifts. Altar servers were Donnie Pitts, Myles Somers and Frank Machnik. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace. St. Peter’s CWL formed an honour guard. Pallbearers were Adam Wilkie, Matthew Wilkie, George Bowie, Jeremy Wilkie, Shawn Wilkie and Greg Wilkie. Born May 24, 1939, in Gemert, Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Louisa (Schats) Soontiens. She enjoyed spending time outdoors walking and did yoga every day. She also enjoyed reading and cooking, especially trying new recipes. She loved dancing with her husband, bike riding and travels with her sisters. Most recently, she lived at Parkland Antigonish. She is survived by three daughters, Carol Wilkie (Cash MacDonald), Mahoney’s Beach; Donica (Dean) Wilkie-Morrow, Edmonton; Heidi (Shawn) Stewart, Ottawa; son, Larry (Olga), Lantz; 15 grandchildren, George (Lindsey) Bowie, Rieneke (Jerry) Mattie, Angelica (Adam) Laybolt, Matthew (Danielle) Wilkie; Adam (Kyla) Wilkie, Kaitlyn Wilkie (Beau), Shawn Wilkie (Jana Rebrova), Greg (Laura) Wilkie, Jeremy Wilkie, Stacey (Ronnie) Wilkie, Kelsey (Zach) Wilkie, Haley Paul, Naomi Paul, Logan Stewart, MacKenzie Stewart; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Anne (late Sjeff) Vriend, Mieke (David), Martin, Elizabeth (late Al) McGregor, Ilonka Soontiens, Josie Soontiens; three brothers, Harry (Cathy), Barry (Sharon), Leon (Paulette); a large extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood; son, Elwood, Jr.; two brothers, Louis, Francis. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
