MARY FLORA GILLIS

Funeral service for the late Mary Flora (MacDonald) Gillis, 97, Hillsdale Road, Judique, was held December 4 in St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Judique, with Father Allen MacMillan officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Gillis died November 30, 2019.

Born December 16, 1921, she was the last surviving child of Catherine Sarah and Francis MacDonald, St. Ninian, Inverness County. In her early years, she was housekeeper for Father Lauchie MacDonald from 1948-1955, which had a lasting impact on her faith. She was always keen to share her Gaelic language oven baked goods and a cup of hot tea. She enjoyed card games, bingo and Scottish music. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique, with her rosary always at her side.

She is survived by six children, Roberta (Finlay) Sutherland, Kanata, Ontario; Frank, Danny (Anita), both of Judique; Eileen (Bill Matson) MacKay, Alliston, Ont.; John (Maureen), Judique; Kate (Ed) Storm, Bedford; eight grandchildren, Colin, Devon, Tanya, Erica, Kimberly, Kyle, Mikylah, Keenan; two great-grandchildren, Blake, Hunter; two sisters-in law, Caddie Graham, Jessie Gillis; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Gillis; her first born son, Daniel, in infancy; seven siblings, John Dan, Duncan Francis, Rachael, John Archie, Isabel.

 Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Cemetery Fund would be greatly appreciated.
