Funeral service for the late Mary ‘Georgina’ Desmond, 84, Antigonish, was held April 26 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Desmond died April 22, 2019, in R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Karen Skinner and Bette Skinner. Joan Phee and Betty Salsman presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Pearl Skinner. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel. Urn bearer was Joseph Skinner. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Patterson, Sheila Flavin, Phil Josey, Dwayne Parsons, Tommy Skinner and Krystal MacInnis. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Ida (Phee) Skinner. She lived in Toronto for 40 years, returning in 2009 after the sudden death of her youngest son, Stephen. She enjoyed music, dancing, cards, bingo and getting together with family. She is survived by son, Joe Skinner (Josie), Antigonish; daughter, Pearl Skinner-Patterson (Kyle), Bedford; two grandchildren, Dwayne Parsons, Toronto; Krystle MacInnis, Antigonish; two sisters, Pearl Skinner, Antigonish; Rachael Troup, Toronto; brother, Ernie Skinner (Jean), Toronto; sister-in-law, Rita Ash; many nieces and nephews, especially, Bette Skinner, Karen Skinner, Tom (Linda) Skinner, Darlene Rushton, Joanne (Peter) Lind. She was predeceased by son, Stephen; three brothers, Joe, Tom, Bill; sister, Hattie. Memorial donations may be made to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation or St. Martha’s Hospital Foundation.
