Mary ‘Marlene’ Waechter

Funeral service for the late Mary ‘Marlene’ Waechter, 78, Port Hawkesbury, was held September 28 in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery. Mrs. Waechter died September 22, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Burt) MacLellan. She moved to Port Hawkesbury in 1962, where she managed the local Simpsons-Sears. She later worked in Port Hawkesbury schools assisting children with special learning needs and finished her working career with her husband at the Port Hawkesbury Airport until their retirement. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Don; two sons, Donald, Kentville; Bill (Tammy), Leamington, Ontario; daughter, Lisa, London, England; five grandchildren, Scott, Mark, Valerie, Ian, Erin; two brothers, Jim (Elsie) MacLellan, Glace Bay; Fred (Patricia) MacLellan, New Waterford; two sisters-in-law, Hughena MacLellan, New Waterford; Wilena Waechter, Banff, Alberta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Danny MacLellan, two, in infancy; four sisters, Peggy Gagne, Kay Cameron, Patricia MacNeil; one, in infancy.
