MARY MILDRED DICKS
A celebration of life for the late Mary Mildred Dicks, 98, was held June 3 in Bethel Baptist Church, Dartmouth, with Reverend Dr. Vance Arbeau officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
Mrs. Dicks died May 29, 2019, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.
Born January 1, 1921, in Lamaline, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Francis Pittman. She immigrated to Halifax through Pier 21, at age 18. She worked at Camp Hill Hospital, where she met Lambert Dicks, and raised her family in Fairview. She spent her latter years in Edgemere, a senior’s apartment in downtown Dartmouth, where she enjoyed an active social life and engaged in many activities such as ceramics, bingo, and knitting with the Crafty Ladies. She enjoyed going to the malls and attended church service every Sunday where she sang the hymns from her heart. She moved to Antigonish to live with her daughter, Norma, when she felt she needed more help with daily tasks.
She is survived by daughter, Norma (Don); six grandchildren, Alana (Chris), Sarah (Scottie), Rebekah (Nick), Aleen (Tim), James (Stacey), Evelynn (Adam); eight great-grandchildren, Josh, Lewis, Ava, Charlotte, Norman, Chase, Madalyn, Otto.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lambert; daughter, Sandra; five siblings, Thomas, Emmie, Dorothy, Otto, Mable.
