Funeral service for the late Maureen Marjorie Doiron, 91, Antigonish, was held February 16 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial will be in St. Ninian’s cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Doiron died February 11, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Melanie Doiron and Shawna Duval. Music was provided by Emery van de Wiel. Pallbearers were Linus Doiron, Zachary Doiron, Paul M. Doiron, John Lorne Broderick, Steve Kyle and Paul J. Doiron. Born August 8, 1927, in Newton, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Marjorie (Gerrior) Cunningham. She graduated from Boston College in 1952 and, the following year, moved to Antigonish after her marriage to Leo Doiron. She was a talented seamstress and loved to bake. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and playing bridge and continued to play bridge in recent years at Club 60. After her husband’s death, she travelled extensively to visit her children, driving solo many times to Ontario, New Orleans, Boston, New Hampshire, and Vermont. She loved her summers in Bayfield with family. She is survived by six children, Denyse (Steve) Kyle, Antigonish; Daniel, Montreal; Adele, Antigonish; Linus (Stacey), Reading, Massachusetts; Melanie, Concord, New Hampshire; Paul (Ruth), Windsor, Vermont; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Leo (Naomi), Matthew (Connie), Shawna, Jared, Zachary, Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Carmela; sister, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo; grandson, Nate; sister, Pat. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation or VON Antigonish.
