MELVIN WAYNE GREENE
Funeral service for the late Melvin Wayne Greene, 73, Lochaber, Antigonish County, was held July 11 in St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, with Father Lazarus Guria officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lochaber.
Mr. Greene died July 7, 2019, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Urn bearer was Jack Clapperton.
Readers at the funeral Mass were Linda Greene Munroe, Cindy MacDonald and Dawn Michelle MacDonald. Ellie Tully, Elise Tully and Sara Clapperton presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic ministers were Ellen MacDonald and John Gillis. Music was provided by Haley Shepherd Margaret MacDonald.
Honorary pallbearers were Donnie MacDonald, Phonse Archibald, John Gillis, Bill Hattie, Jimmy Stewart, Doug MacDonald, Jimmy Greene, Everett MacDonald, Kenny MacDonald, David MacDonald, Everett Pitts, Reggie MacLean, Basil Pitts and Murray Greene.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Margaret (Greene) MacDougall. He was raised in East River, St. Mary’s. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, retiring from the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation in 2005. He had a great sense of humour and enjoyed teasing and carrying on with family and friends. He was an active volunteer in the Lochaber community and enjoyed playing cards, going to concerts and car shows, traveling around the Maritimes, especially spending time with his family at the cottage.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria (MacDonald); daughters, Alison Clapperton, Antigonish; Robyn (Dan Tully), Truro; Kerri (Jason Penney), Grand Lake; four grandchildren, Jack, Ellie, Sara, Elise; family members, Marion, Anna, Grace, Jimmy; and a large extended family.
He was predeceased by his mother’s husband, Everette MacDougall; grandmother, Mary (Mosher) Greene; grandfather, William Greene.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lochaber Community Centre or Cathy’s Place.
