Michael Lambertus ‘Mike’ van Oirschot

Committal service for the late Michael Lambertus ‘Mike’ van Oirschot, 60, Antigonish, was held September 1 in St. Ninian Cemetery with Father Andrew Boyd officiating. Mr. Van Oirschot died on August 27, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. He was a son of Jo and Ann van Oirschot. He graduated from St. F.X. with a Geology degree and spent several decades working in that field. Later, he moved onto forestry work, as he enjoyed being outdoors and working with his sons. He was an avid sport enthusiast and coach for many different sports - hockey, tennis, skiing, and golf. Operating a spacing saw became a sport to him. Besides his parents, he is survived by his partner, Ashley Fleury, four sons, Cameron (Danielle), Brent (Meagan), Colin (Katlyn), Marcus; four sisters, Ann Marie, Madeline (Joe), Wilhelmina (Greg), Evelyn (Garnet); two brothers, Joey (Darlene), Tom (Jane); many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his youngest sister, Brigitte, in infancy; brother-in-law, Jim Tozer.
