MONA MARGARET MACLEAN

Funeral service for the late Mona Margaret MacLean, 83, Cleveland, Inverness County, was held October 24 in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. MacLean died October 19, 2019, in the QEll Infirmary Site, Halifax. 

Born Oct. 11, 1936, in Point Tupper, Richmond County, she was a daughter of the late John David and Lida (LeBlanc) MacNeil. A homemaker, she was also a cook, for a short time, at the pulp mill in Point Tupper; a cleaner at ACL, worked at Sobey’s and Frenchy’s in Auld’s Cove. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Port Hawkesbury. She loved baking and passed on many secret recipes. She loved to play 45s and crib, and enjoyed a good conservation with family and friends. She spent the last 10 months living with daughter Linda and her husband John Moloney.

She is survived by her seven children, Linda (John) Moloney, Blackstone Rd.; Marilyn (Stephen) Hinkley, Halifax; Melody MacLean (Richie Chiasson), Port Hawkesbury; Thomas (Joan), Arichat; Gary, New Glasgow; Brian (Kathy) Mississauga, Ontario; John (Helen), Port Hawkesbury; 17 grandchildren, Lindsay (Jim), Matthew, Amy, Crystal, Gary Jr. (Jackie), Arden (Eric), Thomas James (Leah), Brian (Heather), Brittany, Spencer (Sydney), Jenna (Matthew), Leeanne (Shady), Melissa (Andrew), Mallory, Caleb, Glenda (Robson), Thomas (Katie); 14 great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Hope, Nikki, Owen, Evertt, Addy, Willard, Layla, Marice, Jack, Michael, Drew, Gabe, Jessie; six sisters, Martina (Francis) Lamey, Port Hawkesbury; Joan (Gary) MacRae, Lexington; Yvonne MacNeil (Don), Port Hawkesbury; Katie (Guy) Boutlier, Wallaceburg, Ontario; Stella, Beatrice, both of Port Hawkesbury; brother, Russell (Jean), Lexington; many nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by her great-grandson, Sebastian; three sisters Claire, Marie; one, in infancy; seven brothers, Johnny, Malcolm, Artie; four, in infancy.
