Noel Andrew ‘Chief ‘ Bernard

Funeral service for the late Noel Andrew ‘Chief ‘ Bernard, 59, We’koqma’q First Nation, was held August 22 in Blessed St. Katari Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q, with Father MacDonald Ibeth officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Mr. Bernard died August 16, 2018, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born March 5, 1959, he was a son of the late Jacob and Bertha (Googoo) Bernard. He was an entrepreneur, making wreaths out of pine cones, flowers and driftwood. He was a landscaper who took pride in yards, gardening and flowers, a baseball player, coach, businessman, an avid Habs fan and crib player. When not found watching his team, he could be found fishing in all seasons. Summer months he would camp in Malikomish. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Rena; three grandchildren, Gabe Rendell, Parker MacKenzie, Devon M.; two sisters, Mary (Joe Johnson), Jessie Francis (Joey Young), both of Eskasoni; two brothers, Martin Bernard, We’koqma’q; Bertram (Annette) Bernard, Eskasoni; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; seven godchildren, Daisy, Alichia (Was), Marijenna, Sondra, Ker, Charles, Lucas; foster father, Levi Deny, Eskasoni. He was predeceased by foster mother, Bridget Deny; stepson, Darrel K. M.; sister, Cecilia Mae Bernard; brother, Donald Bernard. Online condolences: www.haverstocks.com
