Norman Derrick Melanson
Funeral service for the late Norman Derrick Melanson, 53, Antigonish County, was held December 15 in C.L. Curry Funeral Home with Father John Barry officiating. Burial was in St. Ninian Cemetery.
Mr. Melanson died December 11, 2018, at home.
Reader at the funeral service was Jakalee Myette. Music was provided by Ray and Rachel Mattie.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Myette, Robbie MacGillivray, Carl Adams, Norman Burton, Sheldon Hawes and Dawson Richards.
Born December 1, 1965, in Antigonish, he was a son of Peggy MacPherson, Antigonish, and the late Abraham Melanson. He lived in the Tracadie/Afton area of Antigonish County. A welder by trade, he spent most of his working life employed with Dave MacPherson Welding in Antigonish. He had a reputation for being a highly skilled welder in the field. He had a great passion for fishing and the water, whether it be fishing on a lake or out on a lobster boat lending a helping hand. He enjoyed cooking and took pride in making seafood chowder. He also enjoyed visits with friends and family and playing checkers.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Abrianna Melanson, Heatherton; sister, Darlene (Jeffrey) Myette, Antigonish; two nieces, Jakalee, Jyleah; former partner and mother of his daughter, Heather MacGillivray.
He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, John and Emma DeCoste; paternal grandparents, Norman and Lucy Melanson.
