Funeral service for the late Rachel Currie, 48, Frasers Mills, Antigonish County, was held December 5 in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews, with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating, assisted by Father Andrew Gillies, Father Dan MacDonald and Deacon Art Riley. Ms. Curry died December 1, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Vonda Brophy, Mary Lou Foreman and Sister Catherine MacGillivray. Altar servers were Henry and Minnie Van de Wiel. John Currie, Tim Coyle and Brenda Chisholm presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Emery Van de Wiel, soloist Sister Catherine MacGillivray and piper Robert Kerr. Urn bearers were Janace Daley and Marguerite MacGillivray. Members of St. Andrew’s CWL formed an honour guard. Born on February 6, 1970, in St. Martha’s Hospital, she was the fourth child of Sheldon and Dawn (Wolstenholme) Currie, St. Andrews. She graduated from St.F.X. University with a BA and BEd, and from Dalhousie University with an MSc. in Speech Language Pathology. She was employed by the Strait Regional School Board for the past 19 years. She worked as a speech language pathologist and currently held a position as a vice principal at St. Andrew’s Junior School, Antigonish. Her favourite day of the year was the first day of school. She loved nothing better than being the first face that the kids saw when they passed through the front door. She always had a welcoming smile and a positive comment for all students. Her strength and courage were admired by all who had the privilege to know her. She collected friends like she collected rocks. Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jerry Smith; three sons, Declan, Kuri, Colin, all at home; two brothers, Mark (Janice), Pictou; John, Pomquet; sister, Mairi (Donnie MacIsaac), Wolfville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Janace Daley, Marguerite MacGillivray. She was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Hazel and John Wolstenholme; paternal grandparents, Mary and Charles Currie; mother and father-in-law, Janann and Stanley Smith.
