Funeral service for the late Rita Marion ‘Nan’ Rhynold, 95, was held September 19 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial will be in Star of the Sea Cemetery, Canso, at a later date. Mrs. Rhynold died September 14, 2018, in the Palliative Care Unit, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Anthony Clarke, Krista Clarke and Sean Clarke. Emily Clarke and Olivia Clarke presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Emery Van de Wiel. Pallbearers were Anthony Clarke, Krista Clarke, Sean Clarke, Chris Rhynold and Kim Rhynold. Born May 31, 1923, in Little Dover, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Lillian (Sampson) Rhynold. She married John, making their home in Halifax and Kentville, later retiring in Heatherton and spending their summers in Fox Island. She is survived by daughter, Diane Clarke; son, David (Marcia); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Bray; brother, Jim (Pearlie); two sisters-in-law, Mary Flemming, Betty Rhynold; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John; son-in-law, Dave Clarke; two sisters, Geraldine, Genesta; three brothers, Albert, Len, Bud.
