Funeral service for the late Roger Alexander Chandler, 57, Grand Anse, was held July 25 in River Denys Presbyterian Church with Reverend Wayne MacLeod officiating. Burial was in Upper River Denys Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler died July 20, 2019, in the Halifax QEII Infirmary Site Hospital.
Born March 4, 1962, in Inverness, he was the oldest son of Ray and the late Anne (MacPhail) Chandler. He grew up in River Denys and attended Whycocomagh Consolidated School. He went on to further his education at the Port Hawkesbury Vocational School where he completed carpentry. He grew a successful carpentry business working out west and eventually moving back to Cape Breton. He married Tanya Matthews on July 2, 2011 and built their dream home in Grand Anse. He enjoyed Scottish music, his guitars and mandolin, snowmobiling and his side-by-side.
Besides his father, he is survived by his wife of nine years, Tanya Matthews-Chandler; three stepchildren, Joel (Madison) Gionet, Matthew Marchand, Garrett Marchand; step-grandchild, Corbin Gionet; sister, Patricia (Chris) MacDonnell, brother, Wayne (Wanda) Chandler; four nephews, Kyle and Kirk MacDonnell, Ethan and Evan Chandler; grandmother, Ruth Chandler; mother and father- in-law, Debbie and Jimmy Phillips; three brothers-in-law, Draper, Sheldon and Gerard (Melissa) Matthews; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Thomas and Katherine (Gillis) MacPhail; paternal grandfather, Raymond Chandler; father-in-law, Charlie Matthews.
Memorial donations may be made to Upper River Denys Cemetery or to a charity of choice.
