Rose Paul
Funeral service for the late Rose Paul, 84, Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation, Antigonish County, was held May 31 in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Summerside Road.
Mrs. Paul died May 27, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Cross bearer at the funeral Mass was Gerard Julian. Readers were Mary Ellen Simon, Charlene Bernard and Tma Francis. Layla Johnson, Sophia Paul and Mika Yoho presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Heatherton Choir.
Active pallbearers were Noah Paul, Jeremy Paulette, Preston McDonald, Christian Phillips, Kyle Prosper, John T. Johnson, Mark McDonald and Bradley Paul.
Honorary pallbearers were Mary Ann Paul, Francis Johnson, Levi Paulette, Tma Francis, Evelyn Paul, Jennifer (Atta) Johnson, Hunter Lafford, Francis Moulton, Riley Moulton, Dmitri Paul and Peter Paul.
Born December 10, 1933, in Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation, she was a daughter of the late James Simon and Mary Jane Eldridge. She was a woman of strong faith, saying prayers morning and night. A modest woman, she was respectful and believed in tradition. In her earlier years, she raked blueberries and lived in Boston, Michigan, and Maine. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and giving gifts.
She is survived by eight daughters, Rosemary ‘Ducy’ Paul (Bob), Holton, Maine; Freda Paul (late Lloyd), Dartmouth; Pat Johnson (John), Eskasoni; Delores Paul (Charlie), Mary Margaret Paul, Anne Marie Paul (Kerry), Darlene Paul (Earl), all of Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation; Sharlene Naylor (Kevin), Michigan; son, Peter Paul, Paqtnkek Mikmaw Nation; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Simon, Tobique, New Brunswick.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Victoria, Diane; son, Wayne; two sisters, Freda, Margaret; two brothers, Frank, Steve.
