RUTH CATHERINE EMBREE

Funeral service for the late Ruth Catherine Embree, 96, Port Hawkesbury, was held January 3 in St. Mark’s United Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Lorna MacRury officiating. Burial will be in Southbrook Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Embree died December 22, 2019, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.

Born July 1, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Freeman and Mary (MacKinnon) Reynolds.She was a member of St. Mark’s United Church and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, Port Hawkesbury and the Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed dancing and dispatched for Embree’s Taxi up into her 80s. She always had time for her family especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by nine children, Mary (Dave) Gowers, Kevin (Sharon), Darlene, Brenda, Brian (Joan), Adelene (Vernon), Freeman (Donna), Alanna, Wilson (Denine); stepchildren; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Sadie (Charlie) Ryan; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Freeman; daughter, Beverley MacQuarrie; son-in-law, Tommy MacQuarrie; two granddaughters, Kimberly Embree; one, in infancy; grandson, Keith Embree; three brothers, John, Artie and Elmer Reynolds; three sisters, Greta Wendelbo, Jean Reynolds, Tina Gaskel.

Memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, St. Mark’s United Church or Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society.
