Susan Isabel Matthews

Funeral service for the late Susan Isabel Matthews, 55, Antigonish, was held May 28 in St. James United Church, Antigonish, with Reverend Peter Smith officiating. Burial was in Upper River Denys Cemetery. Ms. Matthews died May 21, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Music at the funeral Mass was provided by Stan Chapman, Fred Matthews and Wendell and Brian Ellis. Pallbearers were A.J. Beaton, Freddie Matthews, Russell Matthews, Gerald Matthews, Calvin Matthews, Kyle MacDonald, Duncan MacLennan, Andy LeBlanc and Sheldon MacKinnon. Honorary pallbearers were Richelle MacLaughlin, Madonna MacFarlane, Josie Skinner, Patricia MacMaster, Lorraine Doyle, Shauna MacDonald and Carol MacDonald. Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late William ‘Billy’ and Mae (MacArthur) Matthews. She had a great love of the outdoors – biking, snowshoeing, walking, and hiking. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends in Antigonish and will be greatly missed by her dog, Maddie. Susan is survived by her son, Kyle (Anne); two sisters, Cathy Matthews (AJ), Port Hood; Donna (Duncan) MacLennan, River Denys; brother, Artie (Joanie), West Bay Road; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Isabelle MacArthur; paternal grandparents, Russell and Maudie Matthews; one brother, in infancy.
