Tommy Batherson

Funeral service for the late Tommy Batherson, 72, Port Hood, was held September 20 in St. Peter’s Parish with Fr. Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Batherson died September 16, 2018, at home. Born September 20, 1945, in Inverness, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (Gillis) Batherson, and was the fourth born of 11 children. During his childhood years, he had a special bond with the Cameron family of Port Hood. At an early age, he moved to Hudson Hope, British Columbia, to work on the Bennett Dam. He returned home and worked in Wreck Cove, then eventually ran his own contracting business, Batherson Brothers Construction. He took a keen interest in the events of the community. He could be found on the golf course, or at the curling rink during the winter months, and enjoyed golfing trips to Florida. He enjoyed a good card game, hearing a good story or telling a good story. He is survived by his wife, Jenny (MacDonell) Batherson; two daughters, Kristi Batherson (John D’or), Prairie, Alberta; Sandy Batherson-Campbell, (Ian Campbell); Valleyview, Alta.; three grandchildren, Lucas, John, Lily Gabriella, Valleyview, Alta.; four brothers, Ian (Helen), Pat (Margo), Gerry (Marion), Martin (Dougelda); three sisters, Rita (Robert), Pauline (Ernest), Anne; six sisters-in-law, Anne, Marguerite, Annie Margaret, Jessie Mae, Mary, Sandra; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marlene (MacMillan) Batherson; three brothers; Donald Anthony, Archie, George; four brothers-in-law, Gerard and Alex Duncan MacDonell, John R. Gillis, John MacDonald; sister-in-law, Dollie (MacMillan) Burrell. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or the ALS Society of NB & NS.
