WILLIAM ‘BILL’ DIXON
Funeral service for the late William ‘Bill’ Dixon, 91, Hazel Hill, Guysborough County, was held July 18 in St. Paul’s United Church, Canso, with Reverend Heather Manuel officiating. Burial was in Fourth Hill Cemetery, Canso.
Mr. Dixon died July 11, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Fox Island, Guysborough Co., he was a son of the late Frank and Mabel (Rhynold) Dixon. Over the years, he worked at numerous jobs including the Canso Fish Plant and also as a truck driver for Abe Lewis. He worked on the tugboat Foundation Vera out of Halifax and also the Fair Morse from Canso to Mulgrave. He worked as a cleaner at the Canso Post Office and, for 25 years, at the Public Water Utility until his retirement. He enjoyed driving the boys to ball and hockey games, watching wrestling, antique cars and trips to Newfoundland with Cora.
He is survived by his partner of 41 years, Cora Pollard; three daughters, Julie (Harold), Canso; Connie (Duncan), Port Felix; Jean, Antigonish; three stepdaughters, Tina (Doug), Hamilton, Ontario; Tracy (Craig), Cambridge, N.S.; Tonya (John), Ottawa, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Chrissy, Keith, Coady, Benjamin, Robert, Jodi, Amanda; four step-grandchildren, Kailey, Jade, Sierra, Jessie; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Shipley (Sandra), Canso; sister, Alice, Canso; 14 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Carter; two brothers, Berkley and Frank; sister, Elizabeth (Liz); half-brother, Emmitt.
