WILLIAM H. EDWARDS

A memorial service for the late William ‘Bill’ Herridge Edwards, 87, Port Hastings, was held September 17 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Burial was in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Port Hawkesbury.

Mr. Edwards died September 13, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born June 17, 1932, in Glace Bay, he was the only child of the late Ira and Geneva (Herridge) Edwards. He and his wife moved from Glace Bay to Port Hawkesbury in 1960, when he began his career with Stora Forest Industries, retiring in 1990. Throughout his working years, he was a very active member of his community, belonging to the Port Hawkesbury Lions Club and as a church leader at Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Music was a big part of his life and, in addition to playing the guitar for many gatherings, he taught private lessons in his home for many years. In retirement, he took great pride in his home and gardening on his property, and going for drives in the countryside. In recent years, he was the primary caregiver for his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Norma (Keigan) Edwards; daughter, Janet Lee (Wayne); son, Bruce (Louise); six grandchildren, Kyle, Joel, Corinne, Brent, Brooke, Nicole; two great-grandchildren, Bella, Briar.

He was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Charlene.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Palliative Care Unit or Holy Trinity Cemetery Fund, Port Hawkesbury.
